Table 46

Conlang Year: Week 8

The year continues! Prompts are here.

Day 50 - Create definiteness markers or more nouns

I decided to skip these, so here's a few more nouns to add to the dictionary.

tool - ʎyp

weapon or blade - Ʌθ.ɣy

forest - ɣɛb.ɸɛɪ.y

field or clearing - ŋaɪ

house - θyp.ʌ

After sound changes, those become:

tool - ʎyp

weapon or blade - Ʌθ.ɣy

forest - ɣɛb.ɸy

field or clearing - ŋaɪ

house - θyp

Day 51 - Create function markers or more nouns

I've chose nominative, accusative, genitive, and dative classes, so I'm going to need markers for those. I admit that I'm a bit confused about where to start with the grammaticalization on these - what words would indicate a concept being the subject of a sentence or the direct object? I'm having trouble even understanding the Lexicon of Grammaticalization that was linked to in the Day 46 prompt.

What I'm going to do is come up with some case markers and if I figure this out later, I'll come back and back form some words they were grammaticalized from.

Nouns are assumed by default to be in the nominative case unless they are marked otherwise.

-oŋ - accusative case

-ɛt - genitive case

-ɪm - dative case

When these are combined with the class markers, those vowels will often end up being reduced or diphthongized.

Day 52 - Update your template with forms you created

I've created another section on my vocabulary/dictionary spreadsheet to list some noun phrase templates.

Day 53 - Write an introduction to noun class (if any)

I've got these in my table, so I think this is set.

Day 54 - Write an introduction to number

I don't have number in Thekkish, so I've added a section to the table that lists that it is not applicable.

If talking about things in quantities, the actual number of them can be listed, or just use a word like xɾaʃɸ (many).

Day 55 - Write an introduction to definiteness

Much like number, I've added a section that shows this isn't used.

As day 45 pointed out, we can use determiners like "this" or "that" when definiteness is really needed, so I'm going to wait for the prompt about them to come up to think more about this.

Day 56 - Write an introduction to function

I added another table to my document that shows how case markers combine with class markers.
