Conlang Year: Week 28

This week, I dive further into developing questions. As always, the prompts are here.

Day 190 - Create a variety of positive y/n questions

IPA Meaning Structure
ʒɛx.tas ða βðøm.ɾa aɪs.yʒ Was the cat yellow? 3.a.pa.BE question cat.nom yellow
tax.uɢ.ɾuq.ʃʌ ða ŋaʎ uɢ.ɾuq.ɾaŋ Give that lizard to your sister 2.a.pa.FISH question you.nom fish.acc
ʒɛx.ɪ.tas ða qyɸ ɣʒɪŋ.ɾa.sɪn Gather the fruits 3.a.pr.BE question he.nom married
tax.sɸɪt ða ŋaʎ ʃɸoŋ.ɾaŋ Watch the white dog 2.a.pa.COOK question you.nom sheep.acc

Day 191 - Create a variety of negative y/n questions

IPA Meaning Structure
tax.βðønʃ ða ɛʃ ŋaʎ ʒɛr.oŋ Didn't you find it? 2.a.pa.FIND question negation you.nom it.acc
ʒɛx.ut.pɛɪ ða ɛʃ qyɸ ɪŋʃ.ɢaŋ doŋ.oŋ Didn't he gather any mushrooms? 3.a.pa.GATHER question negation he.nom fungus.acc any.acc
tax.syɸ zaɪ.βa ða ɛʃ ŋaʎ Didn't you sleep well? 2.a.pa.SLEEP well question negation you.nom
ʒɛʎ.ɸɾu.ɢʌq ða ɛʃ ʃɪθ.βan.ɢa ɾɪmʃθ θɛʎ.ɢaŋ Didn't that rock break the fence? 3.i.pa.BREAK question negation rock.nom that.nom fence.acc

Day 192 - Review verb forms in light of y/n question strategies

Since the yes/no question is simply formed by adding a particle after the verb phrase, I don't think it's necessary to go through all these inflections - they aren't changed by the addition of the particle.

Day 193 - Create strategies for answering y/n questions

I came up with a few short sentences and then reduced them. I ended up with a yes and no that both ended in a voiced fricative and shared a vowel at first, so I went back and figured out a different form for yes.

IPA Meaning Reduced form
ʒɛʎ.ɪ.ʃan.qɪð.wøŋ nɛð.ɢa Truth is spoken (yes) wøn
tax.aɪ.aɪɾ ða ta.ɪx.qyʃ.ɾa Will the flood recede? (probably) ðaɪ.qyʃ
wað.bøn naɪ daɪ.bɾu Sun or moon (maybe) wað.naɪ.daɪ
ʒɛx.ɪ.tas ðɛd.ɾa nɪðβ.ɾaŋ Words are wind (I don't know) ðɛd.nɪθɸ
ʒɛx.ɪ.tas ɛʃ ʒɛr It is not (no) ɛʒ

Day 194 - Write a section on y/n questions

I've been keeping this up as I went along and I'll be adding my examples to the documentation as well.

Day 195 - Explore options for wh-word questions

I accidentally made forms for many of the wh-words way back, but what I think I'm going to need here are forms for each of the cases present in Thekkish, so they can replace that phrase in a sentence to turn it into a question. I'm undecided as to whether the question particle should be present here too. I lean towards yes.

Day 196 - Explore options for wh-word as modifier

In cases where the wh-word modifies a noun, I think they co-occur after the noun, making sure they agree with its case.

This one took me a bit longer than last week, but I still had a good time. I hope to be back for another round next week!
