Conlang Year: Week 22
I survived Europe (and US CBP)! It's time to get back to work on the language farm and slowly work to get back to my desired progress here. Once again, prompts are here
Day 148 - Write a section on numbers and counting
I wrote this section during week 21. I've expanded it a little bit, but it already contained examples of how numbers were formed.
Day 149 - Make a chart for your numbers
This is now in the language doc.
- | Single digits | 13-24 | 37-48 | 145-156 | 1729-1740 | 20,737-20,748 | 248,833-248,844 |

Day 150 - Consider possibilities for spatial adverbs
This has made me look at what an adverb is more closely than I have before. It turns out that's a question without a clear answer! I'm going to make versions of here and there, but for things like inside, outside, upwards, etc, I think I'll say that the prepositions for in, out, above, and the like are able to do double duty.
Day 151 - Brainstorm ideas for temporal adverbs
Since I have clear tense marking on verbs, I like the idea of a universal "at that moment" that changes from now to then based on the tense of the verb.
Day 152 - Explore options for manner adverbs
While I'm sure I'll make more manner adverbs at some point, I think I'll make a particle that can be appended to adjectives to turn them into adverbs, like how quick becomes quickly or careful becomes carefully.
Day 153 - Make a plan for adverbs in your conlang
Thekkish is going to have some basic adverbs, use prepositions that pull double duty as adverbs, and have a marker that can change adjectives into an adverbial form.
Day 154 - Create forms for basic adverbs
Here's what I've got for my basic forms. I went back and played with some existing words, altering their sounds a bit to make these adverbial forms. Here they are!
IPA | Part of Speech | Definition | |
---|---|---|---|
ʃɪnɢ | adverb | here | |
ðmɛt | adverb | there | |
ðam | adverb | at that moment, now or then based on the tense of the verb | |
βa | adverb particle | converts adjectives into adverbs when appended to the end |
ʃɪnɢ comes from sɪn.ɢu (near), ðmɛt from xmɛ.dwa (far), and ðam from θam (to wait).
Well, this one was a doozy for me. Hopefully I'm able to get back on track in the coming weeks, but it won't be long before I'm off to Gencon!
