Conlang Year: Week 11
I've made it more than 20% of the way through the year! Once again, prompts are here.
Day 71 - Explore options for demonstratives
I think I'm going to stick with a two-way distinction for demonstratives, like what I'm familiar with in English. The proximal/distal split makes sense to me.
Day 72 - Create demonstrative modifiers
My construction for the proximal is going to start with the phrase "in hand," θy ʃaɪ. The construction for the distal will start as "for eye," ɾɪm.ʃθuŋ ɛɪ.ʌ. After reduction and sound changes, we end up at this -
θyʃ this
ɾɪmʃθ that
I also added a new verb today, xʃan, meaning "to be."
Day 73 - Write a section on demonstrative modifiers
Well, I actually did this while working on Day 72, but I decided to move it to here for posterity's sake.
As was decided back on Day 70, demonstratives will agree with the case of the noun they refer to - θyʃ - θyʃ.oŋ - θyʃ.ɛt - θyʃ.ɪm for the nominative, accusative, genitive, and dative cases respectively using θyʃ as an example.
Since I've gone with a pretty simple distinction (and I've opted not to use plural forms of them in the way that English this and that become these and those), I've avoided having to add a bunch of extra documentation.
Day 74 - Update your dictionary with demonstrative forms
These are all in the dictionary now, including their conjugated forms with noun case.
Day 75 - Brainstorm ideas for personal pronouns
I am planning to steal a page from French here and start with the full set of six pronouns for first, second, and third person both singular and plural. The third person might also have animate and inanimate forms which mirror the class distinction in nouns.
Day 76 - Create first-person pronouns
Since I'm maintaining case throughout pronoun use, I ended up with four forms for both my first-person singular and first-person plural pronouns.
ɛɪ - ɛɪ.oŋ - ɛɪ.ɛt - ɛɪ.ɪm for the first-person singular in the nominative, accusative, genitive, and dative cases.
ðɪ - ðoŋ - ðɛt - ðɪm for the first-person plural in the same cases.
Day 77 - Create second-person pronouns
Today's pattern follows yesterday's. For a bit of cheekiness, I defined my singular pronoun in my dictionary as "you" and my plural as "y'all."
ŋaʎ - ŋaʎ.oŋ - ŋaʎ.ɛt - ŋaʎ.ɪm for the second person singular in respective cases.
ut - ud.oŋ - ud.ɛt - ud.ɪm for the second person plural.
