Conlang Year: Week 10
The world keeps turning and I keep making up more bits of this language. I made it to week 10! Prompts are here.
Day 64 - Enter adpositions in your dictionary
I did this all last week, so that makes this day easy! I added two more verbs to the dictionary today.
qɪð.wøŋ to speak
xɛɪts to listen
Day 65 - Consider different types of possession
I like the idea that inalienable possession is something that's marked differently than alienable possession. I think we're going to continue to use the genitive case to mark alienable possession but not mark inalienable possession, much like the example in today's prompt.
I think this also makes a pretty good distinction between the types of possession mentioned later in the prompt - innate parts of something or qualities are marked differently from things that come and go.
Day 66 - Identify any possessive markers you need
Yesterday's decision means that the existing genitive case is all that I need.
Thekkish is a head-initial language, so here's a couple of very basic phrases to test out possession:
dwʌɢ.ɾa ɸθɾaŋ - elephant's child
Ʌθ.ɣy.ɢa xɪɾ.ɾat - person's weapon
Day 67 - Create forms for possessive constructions
I didn't need to create new forms and I gave some examples yesterday. Here's a few more:
ʃxu.ɾa ʃʌɾ.ɾat - sibling's dog
ŋaɪ.ɢa ɾɪm.ʃθoŋ.ɾat - the clan's field
ɢyɾ.ɢa ɣʒɪŋ - spouse's beauty
Day 68 - Write an overview for possession
I added a bit more to my documentation beyond what I'd already written, but there wasn't a lot more to do here. I am sure there is a better way to document everything that what I'm currently doing, but what I've got is functional for now. I don't want to spend a lot of time agonizing over every detail - this is a learning experience and I can fix things later as I figure out where the issues lie.
Day 69 - Review and update your noun documentation
I usually work directly in my dictionary and documentation, copying new words from the dictionary into the blog, and writing documentation of decisions immediately after I write out the blog post. This has been kept up to date the whole time, so there's not much more to do here.
Day 70 - Decide if modifiers will agree with nouns
I think I'll have modifiers agree with noun case, but not with class markers, meaning that they'll be unmodified in the nominative case, and then add -(o)ŋ, -(ɛ)t, or -(ɪ)m for the accusative, genitive, and dative cases. I'm looking forward to making up a bunch of adjectives next week!
